Answers to Some Frequently Asked Questions:
Updated July 7, 2008
1. Can I adopt a child from Vinh Son?
Answer: Yes. However, children are only available for adoption through licensed agencies by the Vietnamese government and the embassies of the respective governments where prospective parents are citizens.
As of July 1, 2008, Vietnam is not accepting new
adoption applications from the U.S. - this was reported on the PBS
News Hour.
2. How difficult is it to adopt?
Answer: Very time consuming and difficult. But some children have been adopted.
3. Will VSO help me in this process?
Answer: No. We can only refer you to the appropriate people that we know that can assist in these matters. Our mission/charter does not permit us to be involved in the adoption process.
4. Can people volunteer to work at the orphanages?
Answer: Yes - Many people from all over the world have come to assist the caregivers with these wonderful children. If you are interested, contact us at the email address above and we can facilitate your request with the appropriate person at the orphanage. However, in addition to your passport, you must have a visa from the government of Vietnam. Make sure that you contact their embassy in your country with sufficient lead time to receive the appropriate approval to travel to the Central Highlands and the city of Kontum.
