It’s really pretty simple. A small group of veterans and their families (listed on page 2), dedicated to humanitarian issues and placing service above self, have made a generous pledge. Veterans for Vinh Son has promised to match all donations, through the end of the year, up to $12,000. So, for each dollar you donate, we can deliver twice the amount of aid to Vinh Son.

Please help us bring the orphans every opportunity to learn and thrive. To meet our 2008 fund raising goal of $65,000, we must raise an additional $30,000 by the end of the year. The potential $24,000 from this program would go a long way towards achieving that target. Here’s your opportunity to join forces with America’s finest to help us help them!

12,000 Good Reasons to Help

  1. FVSO will provide provide:
    • Basic needs (food, shelter, medicine, clothing, education)
    • Dental care for each child
  2. Improve diets by adding meat, fish, and vegetables to the nutrition plan
    • Recommended by Dr. David Berdy
  3. Install water purification systems at Vinh Son 1, 2, 3, & 4 to reduce parasitic infections
  4. Develop and improve the physical plants at all 4 sites through the construction of:
    • Boys dormitories
    • Dining rooms
    • Kitchens
    • Sheds for tractor and tools
  5. Acquire capital assets for long-term operational benefits and educational capabilities
    • Tractors to improve farming efficiency
    • Additional computers and sewing machines to further vocational training

Summary of 2008, Year to Date

As a result of your generous donations, FVSO continues to make substantial differences within the 500+ person Vinh Son community. The following are highlights of the year’s accomplishments, to date:

  1. Basic needs continue to be met
    • Food, medication, kitchen supplies, mosquito netting, and a variety of needs identified during our March site visit
  2. Funded budgets for basic and vocational education
    • Compensated instructors for Vietnamese, English and math classes
    • Continued both the sewing and computer skill curriculums at Vinh Son 1 & 2
  3. Coordinated and financed the East Meets West dental visits that will treat all the children in October in partnership with Friends of the Central Highlands
    • Children with immediate dental needs received treatment in Kontum
    • Dental programs funded with Friends of the Central Highlands
  4. To enhance the overall health of the children, FVSO provided the following:
    • Improved daily nutrition and increased protein from meat, fish, and vegetable sources to combat anemia
    • Provided medication for parasite removal
  5. Replaced roofing at Vinh Son 1 that was damaged by storms
  6. Supplied funds necessary to support farming operations at all 4 orphanages
